Welcome to the West Chester University Center for GIS and Spatial Analysis Home Page. This site is still under construction so don't be suprised if something has changed since the last time you were here.

WCU offers GIS courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, we offer an Introduction to GIS course, which covers GIS basics and introduces students to ArcView, MapInfo, Atlas GIS and Arc/Info. The undergraduate Advanced Applications course, which explores the several different modules of Arc/Info, allows students to gain a fuller understanding of GIS and its numerous applications. The graduate course focuses on the common principles and concepts of GIS; examining the theory and tools of spatial data analysis through specific applications. All students get hands on experience using Arc/Info and various other GIS software packages throughout the course.

In our lab, we are currently using ArcInfo v7.0, ArcView v2.1, ERDAS, MapInfo v4.0, Atlas GIS, ArcCad, and several other applications on both Unix and Windows platforms.

Our students work on several different projects for the University and outside organizations. This gives them the ability to develop hands on experience while still in a university setting.

Check out the Remote Sensing Core Curriculum, a NASA sponsored program, which is chartered to develop and support educational materials for the advancing technologies of remote sensing and its integration with spatial information systems. The program includes a series of lecture outlines, accompanied by self-contained laboratory exercises. Digital data sets from existing and planned satellite missions enhance the understanding of advanced concepts. These materials are formatted to facilitate use of these exercises and datasets via the Internet and CD-ROM with emphasis on PC and MacIntosh computing platforms.
