Excel Proficiency Exam

Beginning in January 2009, the Excel proficiency exam tests students for Microsoft Excel 2007. This means that our students can boast proficiency with the latest version of Microsoft Excel! This web page contains the information you need to prepare for and take the exam. For any information not covered on this page, please contact the staff at exceltest@wcupa.edu. Read through this entire page and then follow the steps below. 1. Purchase Registration Code at the Bookstore Purchase a registration code from the University bookstore. The product is called the Microsoft Office 2007 Single Module and is made by SimnetOnline. It costs about $27. Staff at the book store can help you find it; ask at the cashier's desk. The product will look like a credit card and will be wrapped in plastic. On the back of the card is a 20- digit code. |
If you need to take the Excel exam over the summer follow these easy steps. 1) Purchase module 2) Self register, explore the lessons and take a practice exam. 3) Send an email to the staff at, exceltest@wcupa.edu, requesting an appointment to take the actual exam. |

Note: If you previously purchased a "SAM 2003 CD" from the book store and have not yet opened it, please return the CD to the bookstore and ask for a refund. Then purchase a SIMNETOnline code as discussed here. 2. Register and Practice Once you have purchased your Simnet code, you may practice and prepare for the exam from any computer that has access to the Internet. Click here: https://wcupa.simnetonline.com
Other than the above caution, the steps to register and practice are fairly self explanatory. You might wish to write down the user name and password you use when you register. It will save time later when you're ready for the actual exam. Once you are registered you can explore the lessons and take a practice exam at your leisure. You may explore the lessons as many times as you want. You'll only have one practice exam. The real exam is very similar to the practice exam. When you are ready for the actual exam, send an email to the staff at exceltest@wcupa.edu. They will arrange for you to take the actual exam. When you come to campus to take the actual exam you'll need a photo id. |

Register using whatever user id and password you like. When you register be very careful to select the Excel 2007 option. See image, right. If you accidentally select another option, you'll have to purchase another module!
